The H520 is a tracer gas leak detector housed in an industrial designed enclosure.
Designed to pick up leaks from parts after they’ve been enclosed in a test bell, the H520 is a very fast instrument.
So manufacturers of aviation parts like tanks, pipes or any sort of housing can rely on the H520 to achieve production thoughput.
Both models carry the same sensors and principles.
Tracer gas has bee chosen because, unlike other leak testing methods, it is volume tested independant and is not sensitive to temperature variations. It also let’s you localise a leak which is always necessary in the case of the aviation maintenance industry.
The part is filled with your ideal combination of Hydrogene and Nitrogene gases.
The leaking gas is sucked into a probe which directs it towards ATEQ’ sensors. The leak is then quantified and translated into a leak rate.
Why using Hydrogene ?
First of all, Hydrogene is the cheapest of all tracer gases available. This is because
It is safe to use for as long as you do not exceed 5% of Hydrogene in a 95% of Nitrogene environment.
Hydrogene is also the lightest and the least viscous of all gases. As a result, it fills up any part and escapes through the smallest hole faster than other gases.
And because Hydrogene dissipates very quickly, interferences during the test are also reduced compared to other tracer gases.
Also, Hydrogene is non toxic and non corrosive.
Both H520 and H6000 have been designed with specific air inlet technologies that ensures that not only the leak will be found quickly, but also that you can quantify it more acurately than with other tracer gas devices.
